Fuck Yeah That Wide

The only TV chef that influenced me.

chriseats:

Adam from Northern Exposure.  I remember seeing him show up in random episodes when I would watch the show as a kid.  From when Joel Fleishman gets stuck and finds a garlic press in the middle of nowhere, to the evolving relationship between Adam and Eve (his wife), I knew that this guy was something special.  Here’s why:

-Even though he was in the backwoods of Alaska, he never let that stop him from reaching for perfection.  Any of the townspeople of Cicely who have eaten Adam’s cooking rave about how good it is.  Adam put everything he had into his food, despite the circumstance and speaking from experience, cooking in remote Alaska is way more difficult than it sounds.

-In addition to his skill as a cook, he was a great orator.  Ignoring his rants on politics or baby diapers, when it came to discussing food, Adam was eloquent and on point.  I recall a specific episode where Maurice Minnefield requisitions a meal for some important friends, cooked by Adam.  At one point in the episode (forgive me for not remembering exactly where), Adam waxes poetic about the demi-glace he has made.  It’s a minute or so rant about how precious and amazing this thing will taste that piqued my interest in what food could be.

-His reputation for being a recluse and misanthrope never clouded the people of Cicely’s respect for his skill in the kitchen.  I learned from producers Joshua Brand and John Falsey that even though some people might be complete weirdos, they have some ability that others don’t.

This might explain my penchant for flannel shirts and stocking caps.

Such a great character. I miss this show.

House Minority Leader Boehner poses excellent counterargument to recent EPA decision: “When cows do what they do, we get more carbon dioxide!” Inspirational leadership.
